Our popular one or two day small group courses. Maximum 1:6 ratios. All take place near the town of Aviemore.

Please note that when the weather or snow conditions are not good enough for a quality day to be had we will offer you an alternative date or refund. Please make sure any travel or accomadation you have booked is refundable.


 

Ski Touring Introduction

What is it?

An introduction to the skills needed to go ski touring.

Who is it for?

Competent red run skiers / snowboarders with experience of riding in a variety of snow conditions.

A decent level of fitness as the vertical ascent will be around 800metres in the day.


Ski Touring Journey

What is it?

A guided ski touring journey, with skills learnt or refreshed on the move.

Who is it for?

Competent black run skiers / snowboarders with experience of riding in a variety of snow conditions.

A good level of fitness as the vertical ascent will be around 1000metres in the day.

You should have had 1 day of ski touring experience (some skinning) so you have a basic understanding of how ski touring equipment and avalanche safety equipment (a transceiver, shovel & probe) works.


Ski Touring Explorer

What is it?

Big days out of skis, seeking out the best conditions available, moving fast and covering as much ground as possible

Who is it for?

Competent black run / off piste skiers with previous ski touring experience.

A very good level of fitness is needed as the vertical ascent will likely be 1000-1500metres in the day. There may also be long traverses and approaches on foot.

You should have your own ski touring equipment and know how to use it.


Bike & Ski Explorer

What is it?

A big day out of skis and mountain bike, seeking out the best conditions available, moving fast and covering as much ground as possible with access and by mountain bike.

Who is it for?

Competent black run / off piste skiers with previous ski touring experience.

A very good level of fitness is needed as the vertical ascent will likely be well over 1000metres in the day. The cycle into the start of the snow could be up to two hours.

You should be able to cycle uphill and downhill on rough terrain with weight on your back.

You should have your own ski touring equipment and mountain bike (bike rental is available in Aviemore).


Steeps & Gully Skiing

What is it?

Two days of seeking out the best steeps & gully skiing available.

Who’s it for?

Experienced ski tourers who are happy skiing slopes of around 40 degrees in grippy snow. You also need to have your own ice axe and crampons and know how to use them. For this course you also need to have your own ski touring skis or splitboard. A very high level of fitness is required.


EQUIPMENT: We can provide Avalanche search and rescue equipment free of charge. We have a limited selection of ski touring skis and skins available but do not provide ski touring boots. Tiso, Ellis Brigham and Cairngorm Mountain Sports in Aviemore offer full ski touring equipment rentals. We do not provide splitboards but TSA sometimes have availability.
