Skills Development Courses for Ski Touring
Our two day skills courses to help you become more independent in the backcountry. Maximum 1:6 ratios. All take place near the town of Aviemore.

Navigation and Avalanche Avoidance
What is it?
The two day course covers navigation skills and avalanche avoidance. The content is covered whilst on the move and there will be ample opportunity for practise and feedback. The one day course focusses purely on avalanche awareness.
Who is it for?
This course is for people who have toured and are looking to become more independent in the mountains on skis. Please follow the link for detailed prerequisites.
Skills for Steeps
What is it?
The course introduces both the skiing skills and mountaineering skills needed to safely tackle more challenging terrain. The content includes mountaineering skills such as using crampons and ice axe, ropework and skiing technique for steeper slopes.
Who is it for?
This course is aimed at ski tourers who have attending a minimum of 5 ski tours, are happy descending black runs and off piste, and are now looking to access steeper terrain.
Steeps & Gully Skiing
What is it?
Two days of seeking out the best steeps & gully skiing available.
Who’s it for?
Experienced ski tourers who are happy skiing slopes of around 40 degrees in grippy snow. You also need to have your own ice axe and crampons and know how to use them. For this course you also need to have your own ski touring skis or splitboard. A very high level of fitness is required.
Preparation for Alpine Ski Touring
What is it?
Two days covering the skills you need for the big alpine ski tours, including glacial travel, ski mountaineering skills and efficient ski touring technique.
Who’s it for?
If you are heading the Alps, Norway or North America to do longer ski tours this course will help get you up and running before you leave. This course is particularly useful if you are attempting the Haute Route or similar and you want to make sure you are fully prepared.
