WHAT TO BRING:

  • Skis or splitboard with touring bindings

(no alpine binding convertors such as Alpine Treckers or Daymakers, no snowshoes)

  • Skins shaped to your skis

  • Avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe

(if you have told us you don’t have one at the time of booking we will bring this for you)

  • Ski poles

(Any will do. Walking poles with baskets are also fine.)

  • Ski boots compatible with your bindings

(If you are renting from us our rental skis can take alpine or touring bindings. If you do not have boots it is better to rent to full package from Tiso or Ellis Brigham rather than boots from them and skis from us)

  • A bag big enough to hold everything for the day

(it is preferable to have a bag with attachments on the outside for skis. Sometimes this can be improvised with ski straps)

  • Gloves x2

  • Hat

  • Helmet

  • Ski crampons

(Our rental skis come with them. They are specific to your binding so we can’t provide them for other skis. If you don’t have any but do have boot crampons please bring them instead, although these add to the weight and take longer to put on. If you have neither and are not able to purchase ski crampons for your bindings please get in touch)

  • Goggles

    (not too dark preferably)

  • Lunch

  • Water

(don’t overdo it though as it’s heavy!)

  • Snacks

  • Head torch

  • (Or bring a torch or powerful small bike light if you don’t have one)

  • Warm and waterproof clothing in layers

  • An extra warm layer in your bag that can be put over the outer jacket when taking breaks, like a belay jacket climbers carry.

  • any medication that you might need

Please do not overpack, a heavy bag can ruin your day - the ascents will be harder and you will feel unbalanced on the descents. We will have an emergency shelter, first aid kit and camera, among other things.

Rental Equipment: We provide avalanche safety equipment free of change but you need to let us know at the time of booking if you need it so we can allocate this. We have 12 sets of ski touring skis with frame bindings and skins available to rent for £20, these can be booked for Intro, Journey and some skills courses when you click the book now button. We cannot provide boots, you need to bring your own. Our bindings take alpine boots. If you do not have boots it is better to rent the full set up from either Tiso or Ellis Brigham in Aviemore. We do not have splitboards but these can be booked in advance from TSA Aviemore.
