Ski Touring Private Booking

We are currently fully booked with courses now for this winter. Some of our associate instructors may have availability. Email us on enquiry@british-backcountry.com and we can pass on their details.

This day is about you and your group and will be tailored around your needs. It could be an opportunity to: become more familiar with ski touring equipment including skins, ski crampons and different types of bindings; master skinning technique (including kick turns); learn the theory of terrain choice and avalanche avoidance; introduce avalanche transceiver searches when possible; and to be given coaching tips on your downhill ski performance. Or it could be just a guided tour of a new area for you, or a trip to the best available conditions on the day.

Overview

  • Thursdays - £285 a day for 2 people including ski touring skis, skins and avalanche safety equipment. £20 additional payment for each extra person.

  • Fridays & Sundays - £500 (£400)

  • Saturdays - £600 (£480)

  • Maximum 6 in a group

  • Avalanche equipment can be provided free of charge

  •  Venues away from Aviemore are considered but it may not be possible to supply equipment as it is stored there.

  • (Club rate)

PRE-REQUISITES

You will need to be confident getting down a red run and have a good level of fitness. The distance and difficulty can be discussed beforehand but an ascend of around 1000vertical metres is common. It is hoped that the first ascent should not take more than two hours (or we can buy a tourers pass if available), although there will likely be at least two climbs in the day.

Both the ascent and descent will normally be less than 30 degrees, and we can take into account the ability of the group when planning the route, but the snow conditions may be variable.

You should be happy to ski in unpredictable and changeable snow, although tactics to help tackle this will be covered in the course.

Children aged 15-18 can attend if their parent attends with them

If you have had a long break from skiing please make sure you visit your local dry slope or try to get a day of uplift skiing before attending.
